How To Remove Stains From A Leather Sofa

By Mark Denver

The time people take in the living room seated on the sofas has put a challenge in keeping the place clean, particularly the sofas. When you clean the sofas, you would often find food crumbs, coins or some stuff you thought you lost. These are nothing compared to the stains we find on the sofas.

If the sofas you have are made of leather, there are different ways of cleaning the leather to bring it to its original look and shine.

Because of the nature of the various stains, there is no single way to clean all of them. Each stain will have a different cleaning procedure as well as cleaning solvent.

Since majority of the leather sofa sold here in our country is made of finished leather, let us focus first on how to clean stains on this type of leather. A simple soap solution and a rag are needed. You should apply adequate soap solution on the stain and rub it using the rag until such stain disappears.

When you are done, clean the wet portion using a clean and dry cloth. There are those who would leather conditioner solution to keep the leather the same look when you first bought it.

Don't try to use anything stronger than soap, unless its specifically made for cleaning leather. Cleaning solvents are strong and you might end up with a discolored patch on your expensive leather sofa.

To verify if the solution will not ruin the leather, you can apply some on the leather located on the lower portion where they cannot be seen. After a while, if the solution did not ruin the leather, then you may use the solution on the entire leather of the sofa.

Always be cautious in applying any chemical solutions on your beautiful leather sofa until you have tested the solution already. This goes for any leather solutions known to be kind to leathers. - 42493
